Do you own a 2007-2009 Dodge/Chrysler with transmission problems? If so, we now offer the Chrysler 62TE transmission. The 62TE can be found in the following vehicles: Pacifica, Sebring, Town & Country, Avenger, Grand Caravan and Journey.
Through research and development, JASPER offers solutions to correct original design failures and with this transmission, it is no different. The OEM designed metal sealing rings on the 62TE pump are replaced with solid Teflon rings to eliminate pump cross leaks. Second and forth gear loss is also a common concern with this transmission. Therefore, JASPER replaces every 2-4 clutch retaining snap ring with one of a heavier design, which prevents flexing and possible blowout. Last but not least, every 62TE will receive a new cooler bypass valve to eliminate any chance of cooler system contamination or failure.
The 62TE is covered by JASPER’s 3-Year/100,000 mile nationwide transferable parts and labor warranty.
Jasper Engines & Transmissions has recognized a high-wear item on the rear-wheel drive Chrysler overdrive transmission cases. And ironically enough, it’s the hole for the dipstick tube.
“When cores come in for remanufacturing, JASPER has found RWD Chrysler overdrive transmission cases with an enlarged hole for the dipstick tube,” says Craig Leuck, JASPER Transmission Division Manager. “The hole becomes enlarged over time because the dipstick tube will move around inside the case.”
JASPER will use a special reaming tool to oversize the diameter of the dipstick tube hole. A brass bushing is then driven into the case and held in place with sealant (see Figure 1). “This update is made before the assembled transmission undergoes submersion testing in water, and checked for leaks,” added Leuck.
I would like to share a recent news release about the updated turbine half that we at JASPER provide on the GM 4L80E converter. This is just another example of how JASPER remanufactured products can offer better quality and performance, giving you longer vehicle life.
The update centers around a common problem where the fins pull out of the turbine. “Every one of the fins are bent over and staked to the inside, and the outside, of the 4L80E turbine itself,” says Craig Leuck, JASPER Transmission Division Manager. “Over time, and vehicle use, the fins will get loose, pull themselves out of the turbine, and make metal to metal contact with the pump half of the converter.”
JASPER brazes 100% of the turbine fins with a paste and a heat treating process. “Every one of the fins is brazed on the inside, and the outside, of the converter,” added Leuck. “This ensures the fins stay in place, and there’s no metal to metal contact.”
When it comes to all-wheel drive transmissions, Jasper Engines & Transmissions makes it a point to include the gearbox with each remanufactured unit.
In the GM 4T65E, for example, JASPER has found components inside the gearbox that will fail over time and cause damage to the internal gears.
“There’s a washer hidden underneath the final drive sun gear of the 4T65E AWD gearbox (see Figure 1) that is a high-wear item,” says Craig Leuck, JASPER Transmission Division Manager. “There are five tabs on this washer that will either wear down or break off (see Figure 2). That metal will damage, or destroy, the gears inside the case (see Figure 3).”
JASPER takes the stand that even though the vehicle’s current gearbox may not appear to be worn out, it’s only a matter of time before metal pieces appear inside the case. “Do you want to take the chance on a gearbox having a worn washer that may not have completely failed yet,” asks Leuck. “Or, would you like a complete unit that’s a quality product to the customer?”

Jasper Engines & Transmissions has recognized pressure-related failures as one of the issues that need to be addressed inside the remanufacturing process. JASPER conducts a circuit test of the remanufactured transmission before it is dynamometer tested.
Jasper Engines & Transmissions is offering the CD4E transmission for 2001-2007 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner, and 2001-2006 Mazda Tribute sport utility vehicles.
Through many hours of research and development, JASPER has incorporated a series of improvements that eliminates the CD4E’s common failures and provides for a smoother running transmission.
One of the issues in the CD4E is that the scarf-cut seal rings cross leak in the forward drum. “Scarf cut rings require constant pressure to keep the seal in a sealed position,” says Dustin Greene, JASPER New Product Development Technician. “In the case of the CD4E, the rear lube circuit is separated from the reverse clutch only by the seal ring. In all ranges but reverse, it is possible for rear lube pressure to exhaust due to the seal not being seated. JASPER updates these seals to a solid ring to eliminate the issue.”
Another issue in the CD4E is the reverse drum, which is prone to bushing journal failure due to the soft cast material it was made from and the lack of direct lubrication. “JASPER has redesigned the drum to be more durable,” says Greene. “A hardened steel sleeve was added to the drum and cross-drilled holes were added to supply direct lubrication pressure to the bushing journal. To help redirect lube through the cross- drilled holes, a redesigned bushing was developed and installed.”
JASPER supplies a stand-alone cooler kit with each CD4E that is sold. The OEM coolers have been found to fail internally, restrict coolant flow, and ultimately result in a failed transmission. “The addition of a stand-alone cooler kit will prevent any possibility of a ballooned, restricted or contaminated cooler,” says Greene. “Plus, our tests have shown the supplied cooler kit is more efficient at cooling than the OEM design, and reduces transmission temperature by as much as 50 degrees.”
To deal with wear issues in the CD4E valve body, JASPER reconditions the pressure regulator valve bore and the bypass control valve bore. JASPER then installs an updated pressure regulator valve and bypass control valve that prevents premature bore wear and restores hydraulic integrity to both areas. JASPER also installs a redesigned converter regulator valve that reduces side loading and prevents lube shut off in the event of a failsafe condition.

Jasper Engines & Transmissions, the leader in remanufactured drivetrain products, has added the U241E Toyota to its remanufactured transmission line-up.
The U241E Toyota is available on exchange for the following 4-Cylinder models:
2002-05 Camry
2002-05 Solara
2001-04 Highlander
2001-03 RAV4
Updates to the U241E include:
1. Front planetary spindles are TIG welded in place to prevent OEM bore wear and subsequent gear train failure.
2. Boost valve assembly is replaced and the valve body bore is reamed 100% to allow for a new upgraded valve and sleeve.
3. Lock up control valve and sleeve assembly is replaced 100% to restore proper hydraulic clearances.
4. Clutch apply control plunger valve and sleeve are replaced 100%.
5. Solenoid modulator valve kit is used to replace worn valve body bores and to prevent transmission overheating.
6. All new valves are made of hard-coated anodized billet aluminum with extremely tight tolerances to resist wear. The valves typically have annular grooves to improve lubrication and to resist side loading of the valve.
The U241E is covered by JASPER’s 3-Year/100,000 mile nationwide transferable parts and labor warranty.
