Postal professionals presented JIS with this award based on Customer Service Rating, Fill Rate, and Innovative Ideas. JASPER Acquires Canam Marketing for
Stronger Presence in USPS Components
Zach Bawel, Vice President of Sales for Jasper Engines and Transmissions, and Brian Nelson, President of Postal Products Unlimited, "seal the deal" on the purchase of Canam Marketing.
The Jasper Engine & Transmission Exchange Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) has acquired Canam Marketing Corporation. Canam Marketing will be operated by JASPER's sister company, Jasper Innovative Solutions, as the company strives to increase its presence in the United States Postal Service parts market.
Canam Marketing provides vehicle maintenance parts and supplies for LLV, FFV, Windstar, Uplander and other USPS delivery vehicles. Canam Marketing provides product distribution from its Milwaukee, Wisconsin, office, with sales offices in Milwaukee and Las Vegas, Nevada.
"The acquisition of Canam Marketing will be a great addition to JIS," says Luke Bawel, JASPER Innovative Solutions General Manager. "Canam's strength in new product development and dedicated workforce, coupled with JIS's customer service, ordering system, inventory levels, and Transit company will be a winning combination."
"We see great quality and value in Canam products," added Bawel. "With this acquisition we will be able to allow customers the convenience of ordering through one system, the availability of ramped up inventory, and on time delivery! We are very excited with this new growth!"
Canam Marketing will continue to operate as a separate company and, over time, will be merged into JIS. The Canam name will remain for branding purposes and name recognition in the marketplace.
VMF Spotlight - Santa Clarita, CA
Sierra Costal District
The Santa Clarita VMF is home to 43 employees and is the District office for two auxiliaries - Van Nuys and Pasadena, CA. These employees consist of 39 mechanics, including Noah Dutton, Joe Corrales and Steve Buonanarati who are members of the million mile club. This club requires that you drive for a minimum of 30 years with no accidents. This club shows that they have a great appreciation for safety and an ongoing commitment to the USPS.
The Storekeeper, Mary Orvis, has been with the Postal Service for 35 years and in the VMF for 21 years. The Tool and Parts Clerk, Roger Orvis, has 23 years of service and the General Clerks, Jeff Lewis and Rosa Fuentes, have a combined 50 years of experience. The District VMF Manager, Dave Brown, has a number of years with the USPS and has experience in several areas of the country, including Maryland and Hawaii.
The Santa Clarita VMF is responsible for maintaining over 3,000 vehicles in the district, including mail handling and the Southern California Inspection Service vehicles. Their vehicle makeup consists of LLV's, two ton's, FFV's, 11-ton Internationals, Dodge Caravans, Ford Focus's and Pontiac G6's. Despite not having a full staff of mechanics in the VMF, the dedicated crew has been able to stay current with all scheduled vehicle maintenance programs.
Besides the warm climate and beautiful rolling hills, the Santa Clarita VMF has several major fault lines that run through the area, like the San Gabriel and the San Andreas, which provide several hundred small earthquakes every year. Mary Orvis played on the issue of fault lines to share this poem with us:
