Building Trust in the Automotive Marketplace

Jasper Engines & Transmissions has earned an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). The BBB has determined that JASPER meets BBB accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaint. BBB Accredited Businesses pay a fee for accreditation review/monitoring and for support of BBB services to the public. This rating system represents the BBB’s opinion of how the business is likely to interact with its customers. It’s based on information the BBB is able to obtain about the business, including complaints received from the public.  The BBB seeks and uses information directly from businesses and from public data sources. Here at JASPER, we recognize the importance of building trust and respect and in developing customer relationships built on honesty and integrity. The BBB supports JASPER's ethical interactions with its customers, both the installer and the end-user, in the marketplace. JASPER has been a BBB Accredited Business since October 22nd, 1999. BBB Business Reviews generally explain the most significant factors that raise or lower a business’s rating. We would also like to thank all of our installers for the favorable comments they post to the BBB, and other forums, about us. We ask that you continue this practice, as it creates a favorable impression in the eyes of vehicle owners who read BBB reviews. These positive reviews not only help JASPER grow, but also the businesses who install our products.

Sunnen SV20 Aids in Torque Plate Honing Process

Many of you are familiar with JASPER’s long-standing process of torque plate honing blocks to ensure the proper size and shape of the cylinder. However, with the modern materials of today’s engine blocks, we’ve partnered with Sunnen to develop a new torque plate honing device - the SV20.

What was once a manual process, this machine uses automated size control, and gives JASPER more control and tighter tolerances on our cylinder bore than ever before.

Once the block is loaded into the SV20, the machine can be programmed to hone the first cylinder to the size requested. Microprocessors in the boring bar control the amount of force applied to the cylinder, ensuring a consistent bore diameter from top to bottom.

“The machine employs recall memory so that all cylinders in a particular block can be honed to the exact same spec as the previous cylinder,” said Randy Bauer, JASPER Gas Division Manager. “This assures that all cylinders within that block are the same size.”

The use of the Sunnen SV20 in our remanufacturing process is just one more way JASPER builds value into each of our products.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, Americans gather for family, feasts and football. As we celebrate this year, let's pause for a moment to reflect and give thanks for the truly important things in life. We all have a lot to be thankful for, however we must also remember those who are less fortunate.

We wish you safe travels and joyful times with family and friends this holiday weekend.

On the Road to Retirement

On August 5th, Linda Carver retired from JET Transit, a subsidiary of Jasper Engines & Transmissions, after providing over 11 years of excellent over-the-road transit service. We would like to congratulate Linda on logging over 1,000,000 Accident-Free Safety Miles with JET Transit and for being the first female driver to achieve this level with our company. Linda was awarded the Indiana Motor Truck Association Master Driver Award and also competed in the IMTA Truck Driving Championships for several years in the box truck division.

Linda plans on spending her retirement enjoying more time with her seven grandchildren, as well as camping and time in her garden. We wish Linda the best and hope she enjoys her retirment.

A Special "Thank You" to Our JASPER Drivers

How many times have you been on vacation, or driving from Point ‘A’ to Point ‘B’, and you see a Jasper Engines and Transmissions truck pass you by? The chances of this happening are very good. Because without our World Class Drivers on the road, the products we produce would never make it to our customers.

Sure, there are other trucking companies out there, but none compare to the World Class Drivers that we get to call our own.

Here are some statistics that will show you how great JASPER drivers truly are:

• We have 185 drivers between our Over-The-Road and Local Branch Delivery Drivers. These drivers travel a staggering 200,000 miles a week. To put that in perspective, that’s almost a trip to the Moon   (238,000 miles), or eight trips around the world (25,000 miles) every week.

• Our 48 Over-The-Road drivers visit all 40 Branches, two Distribution Centers, even a couple of vendors, running 55 different routes, making 162 stops.

• Our 137 Branch Drivers run 425 routes per week and visit close to 4,800 customers.

• And let’s not forget our two shuttle drivers that make those daily trips between the Crawford
County and Jasper facilities to move cores and finished product to the proper locations.

So the next time you are taking a trip around this great country of ours, be on the lookout for one of the many trucks in the JASPER fleet.

Thank you JASPER truck drivers!

Back in Time with the Hoosier Model A's

Hoosier Model A's

Don Bowne of Cambridge City, IN can be seen in the background polishing his 1930 Model A Town Sedan.

The Hoosier Model A's, a car club out of the Anderson, Indiana area, visited our Jasper facility this morning. "We were all very impressed with the magnitude of the facility and what JASPER's doing," stated club member Mike Mattingly. There were eleven Model A's in the group, one of which was recently brought out of a 40-year storage; its engine was remanufactured by JASPER over 50 years ago.

The Ford Model A of 1928 - 1931 was available in a variety of body styles and came equipped with a water-cooled L-head 4-cylinder engine matched with a 3-speed sliding gear manual transmission capable of speeds around 65 mph.

All of the vehicles in this group were awesome examples of a past era that are being preserved for future generations to admire and enjoy. We would once again like to thank the Hoosier Model A's for their visit. If you're a member of a car club and would like to schedule a tour for your group, e-mail Joyce at j.kaltenbacher@jasperengines.com. Have a great weekend everyone!

What Our Customers Are Saying

Just wanted to thank you for including me in the Jasper tour yesterday.  Everyone, from the pilot, to Gayla the tour guide, to Department Managers, to all Associates, were all very gracious and accommodating. I knew that the Jasper brand was always held in high regard...and, now I know why.  It is clear to see that everything - products, people, systems and processes - is all quite impressive. Thanks again for letting me experience all this first-hand. I look forward to our on-going collaboration.   Regards, George K. / ANC Auto Repair

JASPER Training Center in Operation at Ohio Technical College

Located on the campus of Ohio Technical College (OTC) in Cleveland, Ohio, is the Jasper Engines & Transmissions Training Center. OTC is the premier provider of specialized technical training to students in a wide variety of transportation fields. The JASPER Training Center provides OTC students the opportunity to work on many of the world’s most technologically advanced vehicles, using the latest high-tech computer diagnostic equipment. OTC formed a partnership with JASPER in July 2012 to use its products in the school’s Automotive and Auto-Diesel programs. The ASE/NATEF-Certified Automotive Technology program offers relevant hands-on training over the course of 72 weeks, while the Auto-Diesel program combines the automotive courses with Diesel Equipment Technology. Through the partnership, JASPER provides engines, transmissions and differentials, along with manufacturing, marketing and sponsor support to OTC. Students train on the company’s products during the six-week course held in the JASPER Training Center. The JASPER Training Center consists of five classrooms: three engine labs, one automatic transmission lab and one manual transmission and differential lab. Students learn disassembly, measuring, cylinder honing, how to work with Heli-coil inserts, timing belt installation and proper re-assembly and torque procedures. “We have classes going all the time as part of the Automotive and Auto-Diesel programs,” says Tom King, OTC Vice President of Enrollment Management and Technical Training. “We’ve started a new six-week course eight times since July and we’ve averaged 20 students per class.” The JASPER Training Center also trains students on automatic transmissions in rear and front-wheel drive vehicles, which is covered in car diagnostic testing, as well as transmission removal and reinstallation. In addition, differentials are covered during the manual transmission classes. “The partnership between JASPER and OTC has been very well received,” says King. “It’s been a tremendous opportunity for us to expose students not only to JASPER, but to some of the advanced technologies and training equipment JASPER uses.” “A huge benefit has been sharing some of the technologies and resources JASPER has, which has enhanced OTC’s curriculum for the students,” added King. “The amount of safety training and professionalism JASPER teaches is very beneficial to our students and has become an integral part of OTC’s program.”
