A Season of Blessings...

As we enter this holiday season it’s difficult not to look around and count your blessings. Here at JASPER® we realize how blessed we have been throughout the years; our guidance through honorable leadership, community support, and faithful customers to name a few. However, we are beyond grateful to be celebrating our 75th Anniversary and most thankful for our Associate-Owners that helped reach this milestone.

We were honored to celebrate this anniversary this past September with our Associate-Owners and their families. Looking back on this video from our celebration makes us realize how truly blessed we are with our JASPER family.

Here’s to wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving with many blessings.

NASCAR Driving 101 at Talladega Superspeedway

JASPER® recently held a sales competition for our customers who were interested in attending a NASCAR Driving 101 experience at Talladega Superspeedway. The experience consisted of an eight minute drive, three lap ride along with a professional driver, GoPro video of the experience, and a plaque with their picture.

Customers interested in participating purchased their ticket for the driving experience and if the customer exceeded his/her sales, they would receive a $75 credit per unit as payback for the ticket. This competition went so well, JASPER gave back nearly $5,500 to our customers the day of the experience!

It was a wonderful day and many memories were made with our customers. Everyone had a great time driving and riding in the cars and the weather was perfect!

Thanks to all who made this experience come to life!

75 Years – An Anniversary worth Celebrating

This year we are celebrating our 75th anniversary! Jasper Engines and Transmissions was founded in 1942 through the vision of Alvin C. Ruxer. We have been remanufacturing quality products since 1942 and today we are the nation’s largest remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, rear axle assemblies, marine engines, stern drives, performance engines, and electric motors.

In true JASPER tradition of, “Doing it Right… And Having Fun,” we had an anniversary celebration earlier this month for Associates and their families. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the great success of the past 75 years. We were graced with a beautiful day and many events such as a 5k, Car Show, Health Fair, Magic Show, Bounce Houses/Inflatables, Games, Bingo, Food, Concerts, and more!

Thank you to all Associates and their hard work in getting us to the 75 year milestone! It is truly an anniversary worth celebrating.

JASPER® Sponsored Habitat for Humanity Home Completed

Saturday, August 26, 2017 was a monumental day for a local deserving mother and her two children as she received the keys to their new Habitat for Humanity home, which was sponsored by Jasper Engines and Transmissions.

The local family has been anxiously awaiting their new home since they qualified in 2015 through Habitat for Humanity. The team broke ground on April 22 and since then, there has been countless hours put in by volunteers. JASPER® is proud to have been a part of this process and in awe of the many JASPER Associate/Owners that dedicated their time to this project. JASPER wishes the best to the family and their new home!

Habitat for Humanity of Dubois County was founded 18 years ago, and has helped 13 local families by partnering with them to build simple, good housing. Habitat selects “partner families” to become Habitat homeowners. Much like the idea of paying forward, before the groundbreaking begins, partner families must invest a minimum of 150 hours of “Sweat Equity”, usually by helping to build other Habitat homes elsewhere. Beyond the groundbreaking, a partner family must then invest a cumulative total of 300 hours in order to move into their own Habitat house.

JASPER® Prepares High School Students for Career Opportunities

Jasper Engines & Transmissions kicked off a business simulation project with Loogootee High School (LHS) in Indiana.

Since the beginning of the program, at the start of the 2016- 2017 school year, the program’s intention has been to introduce high school students to LEAN principles, and life skills, that will better prepare them for future career opportunities. The program is a partnership between JASPER, the DirectEmployers Association and Loogootee High School.

“Since early last year, JASPER created a curriculum that challenges students to collaborate with one another, and use creativity in solving problems,” said Mark Balsmeyer, JASPER® project administrator. “One of the classrooms at Loogootee High School was upgraded to mirror the facilities at our Power Drive location.”

30 students were enrolled in the initial program. They receive training and support from three primary volunteers from JASPER, three teachers from LHS, and one primary manager from the DirectEmployers Association. “The kids have done a wonderful job of using the tools they’ve learned and in getting involved,” Balsmeyer said.

JASPER standards are introduced to students, in order to mimic conditions that represent current hiring requirements. These include: getting to class on time, wearing a grey T-shirt, name tag and tucking in their shirt. “These are simple standards that sometimes get taken for granted,” said Balsmeyer.

JASPER volunteered to teach two periods, once a week, in order to share business standards with students. These simulations included: creating intuitive work, practicing Continuous Improvement, creating standards, career opportunity identification and safety awareness.

“These simulations help to prepare students for future career decisions and to open doors to potential job opportunities at JASPER,” added Balsmeyer. “All of this continues to promote JASPER as the Company of Choice for our Associate-Owners.”

The Rewards of Volunteering

Have you ever contemplated why we as humans are so innately compelled to volunteer? Generally speaking, we volunteer because we want to make a difference, or give back to a cause in which we have some sort of sentimental connection. For others, volunteering provides an opportunity to develop new skills, or to grow an existing interest. Whether it's giving their time or money, JASPER® Associates have always risen together to support others in need. And now we have a new opportunity to make a difference for a local family.

Recently, on April 22nd, ground was broken for the latest Habitat for Humanity home sponsored by Jasper Engines & Transmissions. This future home is for a deserving mother and her two children in the nearby city of Huntingburg, Indiana.

What a rewarding way to give back to our community and neighbors, don't you think?

Jasper Engines & Transmissions Announces Record-Setting ESOP Share Value!

Associate-Owner shareholders in the Jasper Engines & Transmissions Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) were treated to another record-setting share value April 25th.  A total of  $9,963,676 in new shares was distributed to 2,316 eligible Associate-Owners.

JASPER® share value has experienced rocket ship growth since the inception of its ESOP in 2009 at $2.30 per share.  JASPER Chairman/CEO Doug Bawel was thrilled to announce to Associate-Owners the 100% Associate-Owned company’s new share value was $220.55 for 2016, up 20.6% over 2015!

“To put your company in perspective,” Bawel told Associate-Owners, “the NASDAQ, S & P 500, and the Dow averaged 10.1% growth in 2016, and you averaged 20.6%, which is double what those three did last year.”

Bawel shared, “JASPER has been blessed, and has so much to be thankful for, including four record-setting years.”  He added the company is very thankful for all the hours, efforts and 18,400+ Continuous Improvement ideas of our Associate-Owners in making 2016 such a success.  “As you can see, we have had great growth in our share value since we started our plan, and we have outperformed Apple, Ford, Microsoft, General Electric and 98% of all publicly-traded companies.

“If we stay committed to Safety, Quality, Productivity, Customer Service and Reduction of Waste, we can, and will continue, to be very successful,” he added.

Today, Jasper-Weller has 11 remanufacturing plants, 75 branch locations and 3000+ Associate-Owners across the United States.

Country Music Comes to JASPER

Country music singer/songwriter, Colton James, has become a regular visitor at Jasper Engines & Transmissions in recent months, not only to show his support for the 190 military veteran Associate-Owners that work at our facilities, but to share information about his project Harvest 4 Heros.

Harvest 4 Heroes helps fund the support for our wounded war veterans in providing them an opportunity to visit a retreat just outside Norfolk, Virginia. This retreat is designed to meet the needs of our wounded veterans and provide bonding opportunities for them and their families while partaking in hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor activities.

His most recent visit was on April 5th to shoot a music video for his song, "Brave Men", a tribute to all who served in the Armed Forces. Some of JASPER's military veteran Associates were asked to participate in James' video, and contribute a picture of themselves in uniform for the video shoot.

"We are really excited to be at Jasper Engines & Transmissions, in the fact that you employ so many veterans across the country," said James. "One thing this video is going to stand for is going to be representing what all our brave men and women do."
