Dodge/RAM 68RFE

The 68RFE transmission family is widely used in popular applications such as the Chrysler 200, Pacifica, Sebring, Town & Country; Dodge Avenger, Grand Caravan, Journey; Ram C/V, Promaster; and Volkswagen Routan.

The 68RFE transmission family is prone to issues that include: loss of 3rd or 6th gear, pump cross leaks, cooler system contamination/failure, high bearing failure rate, cracked/leaking front cover bolt holes, burning of torque converter lining and TCC slip codes, solenoid failure/line pressure codes,

cracked lock-up piston, lock-up failure, and vibration/noise.

JASPER remanufacturing advantages include:

  • JASPER prevents loss of the 3rd and 6th gear by installing an improved snap ring in the case. JASPER’s snap ring is 27% greater in radial thickness which significantly increases the retaining force, ensuring the snap ring remains engaged.
  • JASPER prevents hydraulic leaks between the Underdrive, Overdrive, and Reverse clutch by installing solid PTFE stator support seals. PTFE seals are superior to OE metal seals in separating these hydraulic circuits.
  • 100% installation of a NEW cooler bypass valve.

  • JASPER 100% installs a billet converter cover to prevent cracks.
  • 100% NEW converter linings installed.
  • JASPER remanufactures the solenoid pack and replaces all seals with NEW seals. It is then tested on a state-of-the-art test machine prior to installation to assure proper operation.
  • JASPER installs a NEW heavy duty billet lock-up piston for the 2011-2017 3.6L FWD & AWD, and 2014-2018 3.6L Promaster.
  • 100% NEW TCC lock-up solenoid

Each converter is dynamically balanced. The external converter shell is balanced independently of the converter stator and turbine to ensure the converter is accurately balanced.

Issues / Concern:

JASPER® installs additional friction discs in the Underdrive clutch (12 discs total compared to 10). This provides a 20% increase in torque capacity.

100% installation of the Sonnax Smart Tech® drum on all 68RFE transmissions. This drum utilizes double-sided friction plates with a higher heat capacity, preventing heat-related clutch plate warping.

JASPER’s 68RFE Transmissions with the Sonnax Smart Tech® drum include a larger piston surface area, resulting in an 18% increase in overdrive clutch torque capacity, compared to OE applications.

100% installation of NEW pump bushing.

JASPER’s updated pump gear has a tighter fit with the converter hub at the drive lugs to reduce engagement play and noise.

100% installation of NEW front pump cover to prevent leaking.

100% replacement of converter lining.

JASPER blocks the pump channel in early pumps to replicate the late pump design, preventing converter drain.

JASPER installs an anodized aluminum TCC limit valve and hardened sleeve on early models to prevent hydraulic leaks and future wear.

100% replacement of TCC accumulator spring with an improved design to prevent spring failure.

JASPER applies a thread lock on accumulator cover bolts to prevent the cover from becoming unsecured from the valve body.

100% installation of NEW OE pressure transducer and speed sensors (2).

JASPER 100% replaces dampener springs with new springs on stock converters.

All units are fluid tested.

Each solenoid pack and range sensor is tested to ensure proper function.

All cooler filter bypass valves are tested for proper function.

The Sonnax Triple Disc Converter kit includes an additional friction disc providing a 50% increase in lockup torque capacity.

The kit also comes with a durable damper assembly, designed to work with the triple disc system, providing a smooth lockup application.

The Triple Disc Converter kit has a billet front cover with thicker walls, stronger mounting pads, and an integrated pilot resulting in a front cover that will not crack.

JASPER 100% installs the Sonnax Triple Disc Converter on our heavy-duty built units. This cover has thicker walls, stronger mounting pads, an additional friction disc, and will not crack. The additional friction surface provides a 50% increase in lockup torque capacity.

The billet converter cover has a stronger pilot integrated into the cover and is precision machined to align with the pilot.

100% installation of NEW friction linings and NEW damper assembly with springs.
